BMA Milwaukee Board Profile - Noreen Fieber
What do you
do as Chair of the Membership Committee of the Milwaukee
Chapter?
The Membership Committee is responsible for recruiting and
retaining members. Our goals are to increase awareness of the
benefits of membership; make sure people feel welcome at our
events; embrace new members when they join the organization and
solicit member input, through our annual survey, on ways to
increase the value of membership.
How long have you been a member of BMA?
I first got involved in BMA in the mid 1990s when I went to work
for a company that routinely submitted entries to the annual Bell
Awards. (We won quite a few.) Over time, I began to attend more and
more monthly program events and, in 2006, I was asked to join the
Programs Committee, then the Membership Committee ̶ and
never looked back! I've been Chair of the Membership Committee for
three years and pitch in to help other committees from time to
time.
Tell us about your background in marketing.
My first career was as a journalist. After a decade of news
reporting, I joined a video production company that evolved into
the full-fledged, interactive marketing agency now known as
Fullhouse. Much of what I know about marketing today I learned on
the job during my 13 years at that agency and, of course, through
my affiliation with BMA. Today, I'm a freelance marketing
communications writer.
What is the most valuable part of your BMA
membership?
Through BMA, I've developed and nurtured relationships with
marketing professionals from all aspects of the industry. We learn
from each other, share best practices and do business with one
another. The networking opportunities are amazing.
For me, the friendships I've made and the relationships I've
developed over the years feel more genuine now that I'm
participating in BMA at the committee level. When you're in the
trenches volunteering alongside other hard-working marketers, you
get to know one another on an entirely different, more meaningful
level. You learn about each other's challenges and recognize one
another's strengths. Now, when I need help or advice, I can pick up
the phone and call any one of dozens of fellow BMA members I've
come to know and trust.
What do you do when you're not busy being Membership
Chair?
In my spare time, I love to golf with my husband (he's patient!),
boat, garden, volunteer at the humane society, follow the Brewers
& Packers and attack challenging Sudoku puzzles
