Noreen Fieber, Chair Communications Committee
What do you do as Chair of the
Communications of the Milwaukee Chapter?
The Communications Committee was formed in 2011 to streamline and
bring consistency to our chapter communications. Our team is
responsible for the bi-weekly BMA BLAST newsletter, our social
media efforts, our contributions to the Biz Times Marketing + PR
Newsletter and any other external communications.
How long have you been a member of BMA?
I first got involved in BMA in the mid 1990s when I went to work
for a company that routinely submitted entries to the annual Bell
Awards. (We won quite a few.) Over time, I began to attend more and
more monthly program events and, in 2006, I was asked to join the
Programs Committee, then the Membership Committee (which I chaired
for three years) and now I'm chair of the newly formed
Communications Committee.
Tell us about your background in
marketing.
My first career was as a journalist. After a decade of news
reporting, I joined a video production company that evolved into
the full-fledged, interactive marketing agency now known as
Fullhouse. Much of what I know about marketing today I learned on
the job during my 13 years at that agency and, of course, through
my affiliation with BMA. Today, I'm a freelance marketing
communications writer.
What is the most valuable part of your BMA
membership?
Through BMA, I've developed and nurtured relationships with
marketing professionals from all aspects of the industry. We learn
from each other, share best practices and do business with one
another. The networking opportunities are amazing.
For me, the friendships I've made and the relationships I've
developed over the years feel more genuine now that I'm
participating in BMA at the committee level. When you're in the
trenches volunteering alongside other hard-working marketers, you
get to know one another on an entirely different, more meaningful
level. You learn about each other's challenges and recognize one
another's strengths. Now, when I need help or advice, I can pick up
the phone and call any one of dozens of fellow BMA members I've
come to know and trust.
What do you do when you're not busy being Communications
Chair?
In my spare time, I love to golf with my husband (he's patient!),
boat, garden, volunteer at the Washington County Humane Society,
follow the Brewers & Packers and attack challenging Sudoku
puzzles.
