Scott Dettman, Bell Awards
What do you do as Chair of the Bell Awards
Committee of the Milwaukee Chapter?
The Bell Awards Committee is responsible for effectively planning
and executing the BMA Bell Awards which takes place each spring.
Our objective is to raise funds for the BMA while simultaneously
creating a forum to showcase the best of what Milwaukee are
marketing and advertising has to offer.
How long have you been a member of BMA?
I officially became a member in early 2011 and immediately wanted
to take an active role in the organization, which led to me
becoming a board member in early June.
Tell us about your background in
marketing.
Having worked as a fundraiser for non-profit organizations and
then as a political campaign manager, my marketing experience was
less than traditional but none the less transferable to the
business world. My first private sector career was with the Academy
of Healthcare Technology where in my role as Managing Director I
was tasked with overseeing both the sales and marketing functions
for the healthcare consulting business. Shortly after the New Year
I joined the team at Johnson Direct-a full-service marketing and
advertising firm in Brookfield-as the Director of Marketing. Since
joining the team at Johnson Direct my marketing knowledge has
expanded markedly as I've participated in almost every aspect of
the business from account management and copywriting to social
media oversight and business development.
What is the most valuable part of your BMA
membership?
As a relatively young marketer the opportunity to network with and
learn from some of the most seasoned and successful marketing
professionals in the area has been incredibly valuable. The
experiences I've had thus far have been tremendous in helping me
grow as a marketer.
What do you do when you're not busy being Bell Awards
Chair?
In my free time I enjoy both playing and watching sports, reading,
doing the New York Times Crossword Puzzle and spending time with my
beautiful wife Lauren and our two dogs.
